HOSPITALITY & TOURISM
Cluster Exam §23 · pages 23–25
23. HOSPITALITY & TOURISM Hospitality should not simply be treated as "marketing for hotels." It has an extremely strong: customer experience + operations + service + information + selling orientation. DECA's career pathways are: Event Management, Lodging, Restaurant Management and Travel & Tourism. 2026–27 Hospitality blueprint Area District Associatio n ICDC Business Law 3 3 2 Communications 5 4 3 Customer Relations 8 9 9 Economics 6 6 5 Emotional Intelligence 9 9 7 Entrepreneurship 1 0 0 Financial Analysis 8 7 7 HR Management 2 1 1 Information Management 14 15 16 Knowledge Management 0 1 1 Marketing 1 1 2 Market Planning 1 1 2 Operations 13 13 13 Pricing 1 1 1 Product/Service Management 6 7 9 Professional Development 8 7 6 Promotion 2 3 3 Quality Management 1 1 1 Risk Management 1 1 2 Selling 7 8 9 Strategic Management 3 2 2 Notice how different this is from Marketing. WHO TAKES WHICH EXAM?
Cluster Exam §4 · pages 5–5
4. WHO TAKES WHICH EXAM? This is one of the first pieces of logic the website needs. Competitor/event type Exam Principles of Business Management & Administration Business Administration Core Principles of Entrepreneurship Business Administration Core Principles of Finance Business Administration Core Principles of Hospitality & Tourism Business Administration Core Principles of Marketing Business Administration Core BMA Individual/Team events Business Management & Administration Entrepreneurship Individual/Team events Entrepreneurship Finance Individual/Team/Consulting events Finance Hospitality Individual/Team/Selling events Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Individual/Team/Selling/IMC events Marketing Personal Financial Literacy Personal Financial Literacy Many written projects/business plans No cluster exam Virtual Business Challenges Simulation rather than cluster exam This distinction matters tremendously. For example, someone competing in Principles of Marketing (PMK) might naturally assume they should study the Marketing Cluster Exam. They should not. The current PMK event uses the Business Administration Core exam . Similarly, Principles of Finance competitors take BAC, not the Finance Cluster Exam.

Cluster Exam §1 · pages 2–3
1. What DECA actually is DECA is a Career and Technical Student Organization focused on preparing students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management , with entrepreneurship deeply integrated throughout its programs. DECA currently reports more than 317,000 high-school members across about 4,500 high-school chapters . Its programs combine classroom business education with competitive events, leadership development, business partnerships, conferences, school-based enterprises and simulations. For the purposes of your website, however, the most important component is DECA's Competitive Events Program . DECA competitions broadly fall into three categories: Competitive format What happens Role-plays / case studies Students take a 100-question exam and solve business scenarios in front of a judge. Prepared events Students research, create a project/business plan/campaign, and present it to judges. Some also require an exam. Online simulations Students run simulated businesses, investment portfolios or business operations. DECA officially organizes high-school competitive events around four primary career clusters— Marketing, Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, and Business Management & Administration —plus Entrepreneurship and Personal Financial Literacy . For examination purposes, there is also another extremely important body of knowledge: Business Administration Core. That gives your website seven major academic knowledge systems : Knowledge system Abbreviation I would use internally Business Administration Core BAC Business Management & Administration BMA Entrepreneurship ENT Finance FIN Hospitality & Tourism HT Marketing MKT Personal Financial Literacy PFL DECA itself confirms that it uses seven performance-indicator lists matching these seven systems.
DO NOT CREATE SEVEN COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT COURSES
Cluster Exam §64 · pages 60–61
64. DO NOT CREATE SEVEN COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT COURSES There is enormous overlap. For example: Economics appears in BAC, Marketing, Finance, Hospitality, BMA and Entrepreneurship. Emotional Intelligence appears almost everywhere. Financial Analysis appears almost everywhere. Instead, maintain one canonical concept: economics.price_elasticity and attach cluster-specific variations. Then: Marketing asks how elasticity affects pricing. Hospitality asks how demand affects hotel rates. Finance asks how macroeconomic conditions affect financial decisions. Entrepreneurship asks how pricing sensitivity affects a startup. This reduces contradictory information and improves model training.
